It is November 2009 and Sony Ericsson has an interesting mobile phone for all of us. It is the SE XPERIA Pureness; this device was originally nicknamed “Kiki”. Well no surprise about the name change, I cannot imagine how that would have sold. Anyway, as awkward as the name Pureness seems to be, it fits the new phone like a charm. We have yet to see this device in action, but the preliminary press images are pretty interesting. With the Xperia X2 coming and the Xperia X10 well underway, we are not so sure we have much interest left for a new Sony Ericsson device, but with the device being as gimmicky as it is, it just might be what the public needs.
Transparent Screen
The Pureness’ unique factor is its screen; the entire screen is a transparent LCD. Yep, the new XPERIA is a designer phone made for those folks who can appreciate a novelty device. No announcement yet if the Pureness will be a 3G handset, but it could very well be a 2G device since it is unlikely that you will be able to do some decent web browsing on the transparent screen. With details on the actual specifications, there is a lack of SE Pureness reviews that can give you more information aside from the fact that this little mobile phone has a transparent screen.
Make Believe
The Pureness is the first phone Sony is releasing under their new “Make.Believe” advertising campaign. We can probably expect to see some concept phones being manufactured under this line. If this does turn out to be cheap, it will not matter what kind of Pureness contracts will be made available by the carriers as this phone if more for flaunting than for function. Expect the Pureness to hit stores before the end of this month.

When it comes to mobile phones, its king of the hill, and nobody has taken hold of the Android hill better than the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 and its’ 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Despite getting a little wobbly after the confirmation that it will be using Android 1.6 instead of version 2.0, the Sony Ericsson X10 still holds a very solid ground compared to its competitors.
At the moment, no other Android Smartphone has a stronger or faster processor than the X10. Though the Motorola DROID will also be released in the UK as the Motorola Milestone and it will be running Google’s Android 2.0 Éclair, this Arm Cortex powered device still lacks the hardware of the X10. The X10 also features a 4 inch HD capacitive screen, an eight mega pixel camera and all the functionality you would expect from a 3G smart phone.
The Android 1.6 Donut will be used as the main platform for the X10 though it has not been announced if this OS will be upgradeable to version 2.0 Éclair. With many Android fans hoping to see the new version and its performance on a 1 GHz processor, some interested folks have already diverted their attention towards the slower Milestone. LG on the other hand has also announced that they too are working on an Android Snapdragon device though there is no word as to what version of the Android they will be using.
My personal wish list for an Android smart phone would be for it to have a slide out physical keyboard, a 4 inch HD capacitive screen with multi touch, a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor and a hybrid power source. So far none of these devices come close, though a combination of the X10 and the Milestone would be interesting to see.

Well, no, it is not the last Windows Mobile smart phone ever. We will definitely be seeing a lot more WinMo devices; but for now, the XPERIA X2 stands as Sony Ericsson’s last Windows Mobile device as they focus their products on other operating software. So far they have an Android and an S60 in the works, perhaps we will see another WinMo from Sony Ericsson once the new version 7 actually comes out. For being the last WinMo device in SE’s lot, and for having the XPERIA brand, the X2 still pales in comparison to other 3G phones. At least when you compare it to other WinMo devices, the X2 holds out among the top.
Good for Windows
While not everyone loves the WinMo OS; in fact, some people just hate it, there is still a lot of great functionality to be found in Windows Mobile. The first is with the Pocket Office applications. As Windows document formats are the standard file formats being used, having a reader and editor on your mobile is quite useful. This also sees the application of the full slide out QWERTY keyboard on the X2. The rest of WinMo functions are pretty standard, from the Media Player to the newly created application store. Do not expect finger gestures when navigating this OS since it is reliant on the use of a stylus. Particularly when it comes to the narrow bars you have to tap. With that said, this stylus based OS also requires a resistive touch screen.
Dictating the Hardware
The resistive touch screen and the full keyboard are mostly due to the WinMo OS. At least the screen is a big 3.5 inch 800 x 480 display with 16 million colours. The phone also has an 8 mega pixel camera and all the usual 3G features such as quad band network capability and various connectivity options. Expect the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2 to be released at the end of this year.
